Ongeri Woos His Political Enemies

Cabinet Minister Sam Ongeri is holding out an olive branch to his political rivals. Political differences among the nine Kisii MPs were detrimental to the community's unity, the Public Health Minister said, and called for forgiveness and reconciliation.

"It is time we dismantled our political camps and jointly sought solutions to the poor infrastructure, expand our health facilities and enhance the provision of quality learning facilities for our people," he said during the burial of his uncle, Mr. Nyamatigana Motugutwa, at Gesusu village on Wednesday.

The minister said local MPs were to blame for the political tension in the three Gusii districts.

The community stood to lose a lot if a section of its elected leaders continued to be critical of President Moi's government. "Seeking to discredit a legitimately elected government is suicidal and retrogressive to the entire community. We ought to cultivate harmony with the authorities."

He called on Kisii politicians to stop undermining each other.
