Fair Attracts Regional Exhibitors

This year's Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Kisii show has attracted exhibitors from as far as Tanzania and Uganda. Branch chairman, Mrs Hellen Kombo, however, did not say how many of the foreign exhibitors are participating at the annual fair, which opens its doors to the public on Thursday.

It will be held at the Gusii Stadium, within Kisii town. There was a beehive of activity in Kisii Town ahead of the fair, with local hotels recording booming business, as most of them were fully booked.

"Business is at its peak as lodgings are fully booked by exhibitors some from as far as Uganda and Tanzania who arrived in the town on Monday," said Kombo. Kombo also said that President Kibaki is expected to open the fair whose theme is: Empowering people through agri-business.

Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages dealers have been doing brisk business courtesy of the three-day exhibition.

Some exhibitors and show goers have sought accommodation at neighbouring Nyamira, Gucha and Migori towns for lack of enough boarding facilities in Kisii Town. "Since Monday, we have realised good business," said Mr Kennedy Kengoina, a soft drink stockist.  Branch manager, Mr Morris Ndugire said this year's event has attracted more exhibitors compared to last year.
