The Government has set aside Sh221 million for the construction of a road in Ogembo District.
Roads minister Simeon Nyachae told Mr Omingo Magara (South Mugirango, Ford People) that the construction of the Kamagambo- Nyasembe-Etago-Mogonga road would start when the tendering process was completed.
The minister denied claims by the Ford People MP that delays in the work were due to an environmental assessment report.
Tendering process
The minister explained that the delay was due to an increase in the scope of the project. The road’s design was completed in 2005-2006 financial year at a cost of Sh19 million.
Answering Mr Magara, the minister, who is the Ford People MP for Nyaribari Chache, said he was aware that work had not started although Sh84 million had been allocated for the task in the 2006-2007 financial year.
In a supplementary question, Mr Owino Likowa (Migori, Narc) asked whether the project would start before the December elections, and be concluded with Mr Nyachae as Roads minister.
Completed design
But Mr Nyachae reminded him that the road was a government project and would be completed whether or not he was at the helm of the ministry.
Youth Affairs assistant minister Katoo ole Metito told Mr Ochillo Ayacko (Rongo, Narc) that 125 youth polytechnics were earmarked for improvement and maintenance.
He tabled a list of the institutions, saying 55 of the 210 constituencies did not have government polytechnics.
Mr Metito said in the 2006-2007 financial year, the minister had requested each MP to identify one polytechnic to be built and maintained by the Government. The House heard that Kitere Youth Polytechnic would be considered in the arrangement.
