Finance Minister Chris Okemo and his Agriculture counterpart Chris Obure said wealth and arrogance alone could not make one President of Kenya. They said those seeking to lead Kenya "should rise above petty pride and feelings of ethnic superiority".
Kenya, the ministers said, is a complicated country of diverse communities where one tribe alone could not catapult one of its own to the presidency.
Without naming names, the ministers said it was too early for presidential aspirants to declare their ambitions for the presidency, arguing that such people risked alienating themselves. Mr. Nyachae last week declared his candidacy for the presidency and immediately touched off a storm.
Mr. Okemo said that those going round claiming that there was no government were isolating their communities from the government of the day at the expense of development projects.
Mr. Obure condemned those claiming to lead the Kisii community arguing that "I and [Kitutu Masaba MP] George Anyona are the senior-most politicians in Gusiiland [and we] should be consulted on all matters".
The ministers, who were presiding over a funds drive in aid of 19 primary schools at Gitibo in Bobasi Constituency at the weekend, said leaders should address development issues and poverty reduction.
Elsewhere, Bomachoge MP Zephania Nyang'wara has dared the Kisii Kanu branch chairman, Mr. Geoffrey Asanyo, to invade Mr. Nyachae's farm in the Rift Valley as he has threatened to do. The MP said the Kisii were ready to defend Mr. Nyachae "to the last and those threatening him would face the anger of the community".
Mr. Nyang'wara was reacting to a statement released in Kisii town alleging that Mr. Asanyo was being used by a clique within Kanu to campaign against Mr. Nyachae since he declared his intention to run for President.
Mr. Nyang'wara wondered why Nyachae's declaration for the presidency was itching the entire Kanu establishment and yet Nyachae was exercising his democratic as a senior citizen of this country.
"Kanu hawks should not be jittery over Nyachae's intention of gunning for the presidency if they are not fearing his popularity," said Mr. Nyang'wara.
On the sentiments issued the Kisumu Kanu organizing secretary Mr. Ken Opande, Nyang'wara dismissed him saying Nyachae was not sponsored by the kikuyu so as to spoil Raila Odinga's chances of being the president.
He termed Opande as a cheap tribalist trying to divide Kenyans on tribal lines adding that Nyachae is not an enemy of the Luo community as claimed by Opande.
Mr. Nyang'wara added that Kenyan's attention should not be diverted by personality cults but urged Kenyans to map out strategies of "salvaging our economy which is in the intensive care unit."
