Political Rejects' Plotting Against Angwenyi' - Leaders

Kitutu Chache Constituency leaders yesterday accused former Nakuru Kanu branch chairman Geoffrey Asanyo and KFF Secretary-General Sam Nyamweya of being political opportunists who had been paid to attack Assistant Minister Jimmy Angwenyi.

The leaders, led by five councillors and former Knut national treasurer Jonbosco Mboga, described Mr. Asanyo and Mr. Nyamweya as "political rejects who enjoy and can only thrive on political controversies for monetary gain".

They challenged the two to convene a meeting in Kitutu Chache to test their popularity against Mr. Angwenyi's, who is the MP.

Mr. Nyamweya and Mr. Asanyo had been quoted in the local Press challenging Mr. Angwenyi to quit as an assistant minister.

The said they supported Mr. Angwenyi's sentiments that Kisii District had been neglected since independence and that most government projects had stalled for years.

"We wish to state that we are proud of Mr. Angwenyi's development record since he joined Parliament. What he has initiated in his short term is more than that of the previous MPs of the area combined."

They said Mr. Asanyo and Mr. Nyamweya were condemning Mr. Angwenyi in order to fulfil the agenda which they had been given during a breakfast meeting at State House aimed at "finishing people who were fronting for development in Gusiiland".

They urged the two keep off the affairs of Kitutu Chache.

They alleged that Mr. Asanyo and Mr. Nyamweya are 'hangers on' to a Cabinet minister from the area and, therefore, had no mandate to speak for Kitutu Chache Constituency.

"They should stop making outbursts to justify the handouts they are receiving from their political masters."
