MPs Warn Nyachae On Presidency

Kanu rebel MP Simeon Nyachae should be wary of political "conmen" asking him to contest the presidency.

Cabinet Minister Sam Ongeri and Assistant Minister William Ruto told Mr Nyachae to tread carefully or risk losing his wealth to political hawkers who will not boost his chances of winning the seat.

Prof Ongeri, who is the Public Health Minister, vowed to make Mr Nyachae's campaign difficult within the three Gusii districts.

Mr Ruto singled out former Kanu and Ford-Kenya official Jackson Kibor and Kipkorir Menjo, whom he termed as commercial politicians likely to abandon Ford-People and Mr Nyachae at his hour of need.

Prof Ongeri took issue with four Kisii MPs allied to Mr Nyachae, dismissing them as political opportunists.

He said he will lead an aggressive campaign to ensure that Mr Jimmy Angwenyi, Mr Zebedeo Opore, Mr Henry Obwocha and Mr James Magara are not elected to Parliament again.

"They have abandoned their constituencies and are only banking on the Nyachae presidential euphoria to retain their seats in the next General Election," he said.

The ministers spoke on Monday during a funds-drive in aid of Shironge Primary and Secondary Schools in Prof Ongeri's Nyaribari Masaba constituency. A total of Sh747,000 was raised.

In Ukambani, leaders yesterday expressed different opinions on the decision by the Party of Independent of Kenya (Pick) to join the Kanu and NDP alliance.

They were also divided on the formation Jeshi La King'ole by Pick boss Haroun Mwau allegedly to defend the community against external political aggressors.

Some said the Pick move would boost the community's stakes in the Moi succession race. While others suggested that Mr Mwau take over from Mr Muli Mutisya as the community's spokesman.
