Nyachae is Defended Over Attacks

Several leaders yesterday defended Nyaribari Chache MP Simeon Nyachae, describing his critics as "sycophants".

Kitutu Chache MP Jimmy Angwenyi and former Assistant Ministers Reuben Oyondi and Hezron Manduku asked Cabinet Ministers Sam Ongeri and Chris Obure to stop attacking Mr Nyachae and "concentrate on their cheap politics".

They dared them to repeat the sentiments in Gusii "if they were men enough".

Mr Angwenyi described the two ministers as "President Moi's sycophants" who have nothing to offer. He told them to defect to Ford-People if they wanted to retain their seats in the next election.

In a statement, Mr Oyondi and Dr Manduku termed Prof Ongeri and Mr Obure lone voices who "will not see the inside of the next Parliament".

Elsewhere, former Kigumo MP John Mwaura asked Prof Ongeri and Mr Obure to stop introducing tribal politics in the row between Mr Nyachae and the President.

The Gucha Kanu-National Development Party regional co-ordinator Ibrahim Siekei advised President Moi not to take Mr Nyachae for granted because he "enjoys "unrivalled grassroots support" in Kisii.

In Thika, four Ford-P officials dismissed as "ill-conceived" the attack on Mr Nyachae.

Led by branch chairman Joe Kuria, the four defended the MP, saying he was a national leader. They appealed to Kenyans to support Mr Nyachae.
