Addressing a delegation from the two neighbouring districts, President Moi said there was nothing glorious about killing each other.
The President advised the two communities to cultivate friendship and harmonious co-existence while at the same time developing the two districts.
The delegation of councillors and elders had paid him a courtesy call at Eldoret Stage Lodge.
Led by Cabinet ministers Julius Sunkuli and Chris Obure, the delegation's mission was to seek President Moi's advice on maintaining peace on the border.
He said human life was sacred and added that nobody should lose life through fighting.
The President noted that some security agents had been injured during the clashes and warned that attacking policemen was tantamount to a rebellion against the government.
President Moi told chiefs to be in the forefront in maintaining peace and security, adding that those found to be ineffective would be sacked.
He told the police to ensure that suspected killers were arrested and charged.

The President said that if the leasing of land for cultivation was the source of conflict, then the government might be forced to outlaw the transactions.
He announced that the security road on the border would be improved and more patrol vehicles made available.
The President told MPs, councillors and elders from the two districts to educate the public on the importance of peaceful co-existence.
