Led by the branch organising secretary, Mr. John Anunda, the officials asked Nyamira Kanu branch secretary Walter Nyambati, to stop demanding the release of people arrested after the attack on Prof. Ongeri's farm in Borabu division, Nyamira District. Mr. Anunda said the law should take its course.
Last week, a group of villagers and students from two schools invaded Prof Ongeri's farm and uprooted tea bushes before burning the servants quarters.
A number of people have been arrested following the incident.
Prof Ongeri's home is now being guarded by police. Yesterday, in a section of the press, Mr. Nyambati demanded that the parents be released unconditionally together with their teachers.
However, Mr. Anunda called on leaders in the area to preach reconciliation instead of hatred.
The Kanu official and those who accompanied him urged Nyamira police to investigate and come out with the motive so as to clear suspicion that Prof Ongeri's life was in danger.
Prof Ongeri was yesterday quoted by the press saying his life was in danger.
