Wilson Ombasa and his two grand children Wilkista Evans and Kwamboka Evans aged six and seven were among five members of the family who unsuspectingly consumed a meal of ugali that turned fatal.
The two children died a few minutes after ingesting the meal while their grandfather succumbed while receiving treatment at Kenyenya dispensary.
Narrating the ordeal from her hospital bed one of the victims Kwamboka Nyambeki Ombasa, said she had prepared the meal earlier in the day and left with her family to attend Sunday service at the local church.
Kwamboka says she suspects someone might have used an open window to enter the kitchen and poison the lunch that took the life of her husband and her two grandchildren. Another one of her grandchildren who survived the attack is receiving treatment at the dispensary.
Doctors said the two were in a stable condition although they were yet to ascertain the actual poison that was used to lace the meal adding that preliminary test results would be released soon.
Gucha police chief Samuel Ng'eno said investigations into the matter had been launched. He said it was too early to make any conclusions and that police were treating the case as a normal homicide.
