Richard Onyonka and other ODM Asprirants Injured in Gesusu poll violence

Mr Richard OnyonkaSeveral people including parliamentary aspirants were injured when police dispersed an ODM meeting at Gesusu market in Nyaribari Masaba constituency on Sunday.

Kitutu Chache ODM parliamentary aspirant, Mr Richard Momoima Onyonka suffered head injuries and lost Sh200, 000. Onyonka, who was rushed to Ram Hospital in Kisii town said one of the policemen took the cash from his pocket as they beat him up.

He was in the company of other parliamentary aspirants Mr John Obwocha (Nyaribari Masaba), Mr Ben Mogaka (Nyaribari Chache) and Dr Charles Choti (Bobasi) when the police confronted them.

"I was addressing the crowd when plainclothes policemen arrived. They grabbed the microphone from me and pulled me towards their vehicle," Choti told The Standard in hospital.

But Nyanza PPO, Ms Grace Kaindi, said the aspirants were carrying out an illegal meeting. "They did not seek a police permit to hold the meeting. The officers did not have any alternative, but to stop the meeting," said Kaindi.

She said Onyoka should report to the police about the loss of his money.
