MP apologises to violence victims

Marakwet MP Linah Kilimo has apologised to Kenyans whose relatives were killed or maimed as well as those who lost property in the Rift Valley.

Ms Linah Kilimo

“I come on my knees knowing very well that hundreds have lost their lives, several thousands displaced and properties worth millions burnt, but I want to tell you that the Kisiis of Geta and indeed other tribes neighbouring the Kalenjins will continue living together as neighbours.”

“Leave vengeance to me so says the Lord and I tell ye the victims of this senseless skirmishes that God will pay you double what you lost for the enemy may have destroyed your wealth but certainly not the power to create it,” she told displaced families in Marakwet.

The Kenda MP asked her Kalenjin colleagues to preach forgiveness.

Talking to the people whose entire sub location was wiped out in fire immediately after the disputed presidential results were announced, the MP challenged President Kibaki and ODM leader Raila Odinga to state whether their children had stopped going to school because of the violence.

“These people have no school-going children and their grandchildren are comfortable in schools where nothing like this is being experienced,” she said at Makutano Village during the burial of Mr Peter Muchina who was killed in the election violence.

She promised to initiate inter-community talks in a bid to restore peace in the region.

“Tuko tayari kutoa mbuzi na ng’ombe kulipa ridhaa, lakini nataka nyote muelewe kwamba amani ya kudumu ni ya maana kuliko chochote kingine.” (We are ready to give goats and cows as compensation, but I want you to understand that lasting peace is more important than anything else).
