Four Die in Border Clashes

Police killed four people as fighting between two communities living along the Sotik/Borabu districts border escalated. Before police moved in, property worth millions of shillings was set ablaze when armed raiders invaded Chepilat Town.

Hundreds of raiders stormed the busy town soon after a meeting on the outskirts of the town. The arsonists looted and set ablaze business premises during the Friday evening attack.Police moved in and shot dead four raiders at the centre.

Eight survivors who sustained serious gun shot wounds were admitted to Kaplong Mission Hospital. Sotik DC, Mr Humphrey Nakitare and two MPs Ms Lorna Laboso (Sotik) and Mr Kipkalya Kones (Bomet), made frantic efforts to stop the violence.

They addressed groups of armed youths and urged them to stop the violence. Laboso and Kones, however, accused the police of taking sides in the fighting instead of restoring law and order.

Other leaders who accused the police of laxity were North Mugirango/Borabu MP, Mr Wilfred Ombui and his West Mugirango counterpart, Dr James Gesami.
