Fresh Hitch Delays PNU Campaigns

The vice-chairman of Kirinyaga County Council, Mr Jeremiah Gateri, told Munyao to his face that he and Secretary-General Mr George Nyamweya had failed to steer the party. The meeting had dramatic moments and at one point, Nyamweya ordered former Nyeri Town MP, Mr Wanyiri Kihoro, to leave, saying he was an ODM sympathiser.

"I am asking those who are not members of DP to leave. We know that Wanyiri says he will support Raila for the presidency," said Nyamweya. No one left. On its part, Ford-People clarified that they would field independent parliamentary and civic candidates.

East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Mr Reuben Oyondi said the party would, however, campaign for Kibaki. "During the party's NDC, the NEC decision was upheld but with a slight modification to accommodate the interest of the PNU," said Oyondi. In Kisii, a day after President Kibaki toured the region, Narc-Kenya parliamentary aspirants from the 10 Gusii constituencies complained that they had been left out of the President's itinerary. Mrs Catherine Nyamato said that no single Kisii Narc-Kenya official had been given a chance to address the President's gathering.

They accused PNU co-ordinators of giving Kanu a 'VIP' status while ignoring other partners.
