Calm returns to Kisii after bomb scare.

Calm has returned to Kisii Town after bomb experts from Nairobi arrived to handle two unidentified objects that the police netted Friday and were said to be highly explosive. The experts ruled out that the explosives are bombs but took them to Nairobi for further tests.

Uranium and a metal container resembling a grenade were discovered in the mall by police acting on a tip off. The Uranium was in a small cooking oil container with writings: "Warning! Don't open, dangerous fire stone inside, highly flammable, high evaporation, casing dangerous. Poison of Uranium." The container was covered with aluminum foil."

There was also some Arabic literature on the objects whose interpretation was said to be highly classified and  thus could not be released to the press. The team from Nairobi was led by a senior officer at the anti terrorism squad who only identified himself as Mwaniki.  Mwaniki refused to talk to journalists but prodded further he said: "We can't rule out anything as of now. Results will tell whether the materials had the strength of a bomb."

Kisii OCPD  Augustine Kimantiria said they were holding one suspect for interrogation.Kimantiria declined to divulge more details to journalists referring them to Mr. Mwaniki.DC Christopher Musumbu appealed to members of the  public with information to volunteer it to the police in the spirit of community policing.

He called for calm as investigations have been launched. Panic, confusion and anxiety rocked Kisii Town Friday after police found the explosive materials from a business stall. Five businessmen of Somali origin were arrested from the business mall situated at Uhuru Plaza in the middle of the Town. The town was thrown into confusion as the officers led the five to Kisii police station where they were held.

Four were later released while one is still in custody. Security was beefed up with GSU officers keeping guard at the Kisii Police Station as investigations got underway.
