Speaking on their behalf, Mr Musa Ongwana and Mr Charles Orwaka asked Belgut MP Charles Ketel to liaise with the Government and ensure they are resettled. "We fear going back because some unknown people, other than those who sold us land in Maemba and Nyairiga settlement areas, have vowed not to allow us to return," Mr Ongwana said.
He said his two permanent houses were burnt and livestock stolen when armed people invaded his farm. Mr Ongwana said he also lost Sh40,000 to the attackers. The affected families asked the Government to provide them with food and clothing. Their harvested cereals were looted or burnt during the attack, they said. Yesterday, Pastor John Nyamwanda of the Seventh Day Adventist Church condemned the attack.
Nyamwanda, the immediate former SDA, Nyamira conference executive director, asked the Government to move in swiftly to avert the attacks from spreading to other surrounding areas. Nyamira deputy police boss Timothy Kivuva, who deployed security personnel along Buret-Nyamira border following the attack yesterday said calm had been restored.
