Three officers spent the night at the grave and were still patrolling the compound at 10am, yesterday.
They were deployed at the grave following a request by area MP Mwancha Okioma and Mr Anyona's immediate family.
"I have asked the Nyamira District Commissioner to ensure that police officers remain at the home at least for some time until the threat is withdrawn," Mr Okioma said.
The larger Moseti family, led by Mr Anyona's brother Stephenson Mageto boycotted the former Kitutu Masaba MP's burial, forcing distant relatives to perform some burial rituals meant for the former.
The Mageto group has since threatened to exhume the body and bury it afresh in accordance with Kisii customs "to ward off curses".
At the same time, reliable family sources told the Nation that a meeting to discuss the family's next course of action would be held in Nairobi, today.
Meanwhile Kisii MPs yesterday defended their failure to attend Mr Anyona's burial at his Gatuta Village in Nyamira District, on Sunday.
"We were confused by conflicting statements issued by members of the family and we all feared a repeat of the embarrassment we were subjected to when the initial burial arrangements, in which we had played a key role, were scuttled by Mr Anyona's brother," Kitutu Chache MP Jimmy Angwenyi said.
Former Cabinet minister Sam Ongeri and politician Richard Onyonka had, while addressing mourners at Tombe Primary School grounds, castigated the MPs for failing to attend the burial
