Kisii Police boss Francis Lemangi said his officers had been combing the area since Tuesday evening when the matter was reported to them by a local Catholic priest.
The 16-year-old boy, Felix Osiemo Kengere, and his 20 year-old sister, Emma Rabecca were reportedly abducted on Sunday afternoon.
The boy is a Form Three student at Nyansiongo High School while Rebecca cleared secondary school a year ago and had enrolled at a driving school in the town. It is alleged that the two were whisked away in a white saloon car.
"On Tuesday evening, moments after Father Lucas Ong'esa who is an uncle to the two reported that the abductors had called him demanding for the ransom, the girl was found dumped near a local hotel drugged," Lemangi said.
But yesterday the operation was thrown into confusion upon realising that the girl had again gone missing after she was treated at the Christa Marean Hospital.
"The girl was not in a stable condition and we expected her to sober up and tell us what she remembers," Lemangi added.
The abductors are also threatening that if the ransom is not given to them by the end of the week, they will kill the hostages whom they claim are somewhere in Kakamega.
Sources indicated that one of the abductors had told the priest that their action is a revenge mission against the father of the two hostages, whom they claim expelled their brother from school in 1991 while he (the father) was a deputy headmaster at a secondary school in the district.
The farther of the siblings is currently living in America.
Their mother reportedly died several years ago and the two have since then been under the care of Father Ong'esa.
