We Beg to Disagree, Mr Abdulahi Leloon, Kisii DC

But today the DC appears miffed at the reports, "categorically" denies the existence of a militia group, goes political and claims that those crying are a few 'criminals," and challenges anyone with concrete information to go to the police instead of hiding under the cover of press reports.
As an administrator, Mr Leloon appears to be losing sight of the unpalatable facts facing his people. First, he denies the existence of the group, only to add that there exists a vigilante whose total membership he does not know. But based on the interviews conducted by our reporter it is clear that there is a group terrorizing people and destroying property. Amazingly, however, Leloon has expressed support and confidence in the activities meted out on law-abiding citizens by this unruly group. He has made up his mind that the vigilante can neither do nor contemplate evil and closed his ears to the cries of those complaining. How sad for a person who is the district's security head?
This, dear readers, is the same person who re-installed a chief who had earlier been interdicted after being implicated in a murder case. "After we reprimanded him he sought forgiveness and a last chance." That is the DC justifying the re-installation of a man the people have no faith in on the basis of a plea for forgiveness.
Mr Leloon may be a good administrator. But with all due respect he presides over a district that has had, though not peculiarly, very disturbing criminal cases lately. Yet he bats no eyelid denying lawlessness and defending those who abet crime. Just for the sake of argument, lets say that Kisungu sungu or any other militia group does not exist in Kisii. But then, who is behind the grisly murders and blatant destruction of property in the area? What has he done about it?
In challenging people to come up with "concrete" information about the criminal activities of Kisungusungu, while at the same time saying ironically that there indeed exists a nameless vigilante group who do the work ordinarily meant for the police, the DC casts doubt on his ability to head the security committee of his district.
Isn't he supposed to be on top of things? Isn't he supposed to know who is messing up the people? Isn't he supposed to listen to everyone? Aren't these complaints he is brushing aside worth at least some investigations? The people of Bonchari are simply telling him that the group he would like to refer to only as vigilante is actually a dangerous militia. But he does not want to face that fact. That is why his response today is an insult to the intelligence of the people of Bonchari. He has in effect told them that he has no intention of investigating lawlessness in the area. Is this public service? For his information, the complainants appear to be people of sound mind and not what he refers to as "criminals."
