Ex-Minister Dies Aged 72

Omanga who served as Minister for Commerce and Industry and later as also served as Minister for Environment and Natural Resources passed away at the Nairobi Hospital on Saturday night where he was undergoing treatment. Sources at the hospital said Omanga has been undergoing treatment at the hospital's intensive care unit.
Omanga represented Nyaribari Chache constituency from 1979 to 1992 when he stepped down for Ford People leader Simeon Nyachae who was then in Kanu. Omanga was subsequently appointed the chairman of the Kenya National Assurance Company. He later also served as the Kenya Reinsurance Corporation chairman.
Born in 1932, Omanga attended Makerere University between 1950 and 1953 where he attained a Bachelor of Arts degree. He attained his MA degree in social service administration from Tata Institute of Social Science in Bombay, India.
He served as Ministry of Home Affairs PS between 1966-1970 and in a similar capacity in the Ministry of Local Government.
He leaves behind a widow Clare Omanga who was the first Kisii town, female mayor and also served as Kisii District Maendeleo Ya Wanawake chairperson.
