Land Row Mars Sh1.5b Road Project

A road project funded by the Government to the tune of Sh1.5 billion in Nyamira District is faced with controversy after a family moved to court seeking to evict the contractor for trespassing on their land.

Completion of the much publicised 37km Kisii-Chemosit road hangs in the balance following the suit lodged against Put Sarajevo General Engineering company for allegedly trespassing into and establishing a quarry on the family land.

Mr Julius Keoye, jointly with his niece Ebisiba Osoro and on behalf of his late mother, is seeking to block the international firm from excavating ballast from a portion of the land parcel No: Central Kitutu/Bogetaorio/256.

The two are administrators of the estate situated at Irianyi Sub-location, Kemera Location of Nyamira District measuring approximately 10.33 acres.

A daughter-in-law to the deceased, Ms Kerubo Ondieki, area chief Andrew Osebe and his assistant Samuel Nyansimora are listed as respondents in the suit filed at the Kisii High Court through Human Rights lawyer Wilfred Omariba.

The firm is accused of trespassing into and establishing a quarry on the portion of land on August 14 this year without consent of the plaintiffs.
