Family spokesperson Stephenson Mageto Moseti said their wish to perform the post-mortem yesterday was frustrated by the police.
"We want the post-mortem done as early as possible. The police said they will do it tomorrow (today) at noon," he said at the Anyona's residence at Dam estate in Nairobi.
The politician was killed on Tuesday night in a car accident when a Datsun pick-up he was driving rammed the right side of a lorry at the Dunga/Lusaka Road roundabout in Nairobi's Industrial Area.
Mr Moseti, the late Anyona's elder brother, said it might take three weeks before the former Kitutu Masaba MP was buried.
"We are unable to start making any burial arrangements because this is a police case. We think it might take three weeks," he said.
He, however, could not state the steps that the family intended to take after the post-mortem results were released.
"You can't know what kind of baby will come out tomorrow (today). It will be clear after that. Let us leave it at that," he said.
Mr Kwame Anyona, the first born of the late chairman of the Kenya Social Congress, said the larger family had travelled from Kisii to make arrangements.
He cautioned the Press against reports likely to cause trauma to the family.
"Please do not write funny things. We are not impressed by what appeared in one newspaper today," he said.
Led by the widow, Mrs Esther Anyona, family members and relatives were yesterday closed in small talks as they took stock of the demise of the radical oppositionist.
Said Mr Moseti: "Family members arrived today (yesterday) from Kisii. We are only trying to know what we should know."
They went to the Mater Hospital mortuary, where the body is lying, to view it in the afternoon.
President Mwai Kibaki on Wednesday led leaders countrywide in condoling with the family, describing Mr Anyona as an astute politician who played a frontline role in the struggle for democratisation in the country. Ford People leader Simon Nyachae described him as a respected leader in his community and the country at large.
