Form One Student Shot Dead By Police

Teenager killed as Administration police restore order in riot-hit school

A Form One student was yesterday morning shot dead by police who had been called to quell a riot in his school.

Selemani Marori, 16, was shot from the back and the single bullet exited through the stomach, killing him.

The boy was the only son of his parents. His father, Mr Shadrack Marori, fainted at the Kisii district hospital on seeing his son's body, barely two hours after they had parted ways.

Students at Nyatieko Mixed Secondary School told the Press that trouble began at 8am after the morning assembly where the transfer of a long serving member of staff was announced.

The students boycotted classes demanding that the transfer be rescinded. Sensing danger, the principal fled to a nearby chief's camp. He returned to school with four armed administration policemen.

The law enforcers allegedly opened fire to disperse the students. One of the bullets hit Selemani and killed him
