Firm Ordered to Complete Road On Time

The Government yesterday gave a contractor tarmacking the controversial Kisii-Chemosit road upto September to complete the work.

Roads minister Raila Odinga said the repairs should be completed on time to restore the residents' confidence in the Government.

"This road was used as a bait by the Kanu government to attract votes in Gusiiland in each election year. We in Narc want to show a difference by completing it," he said.
The work began early last year, and was scheduled to be completed in November.

At the same time, Mr Odinga accepted a request made by the Nyamira town council to allocate funds for tarmacking the 20km road linking the town to Senta to enable the district to have all-weather roads leading to the provincial headquarters in Kisumu.

The minister toured the contentious road and told contractors doing shoddy work to change.
