Ogato Wins Road Race in Masimba

Benson Ogato won the 10km men's road race during the inaugural Nyaribari Masaba cross-country meet at Masimba, Kisii District.

Ogato, who is based in Holland, led from the start to finish. He clocked 28:05.23 to beat a field of 52 competitors. Douglas Momanyi was second in 28:15.90 while Obed Gisemba was third in 28:21.34.

Sara Kebaso took 33:19.00 to win the women's road race followed by Rose Nyangacha in 33:38.72. Eunice Orwaru, winner of last week's Kebirigo road race, was third in 34:45.00.

Isaac Omete won the 8km senior men's race in 24:14.54 followed by Jason Mosoti in 24:22.19 and Justine Orina in 25:22.90.

Susan Nyakeriga won the 8km senior women's race in 29:14.36. Schoolgirl Phyllis Moriti finished second in 30:13.21 while Gladys Otero took the third spot in 32:22.59.

Alice Mogire, 14, a Standard 8 pupil at Enchoro Primary School, led from start to finish to win the 6km junior women's event in 21:47.03. Beatrice Masese was second in 23:08.40 while Nyanchoka Meraba was third in 23:45.35.

Peninah Nyaboke won the 1km special age-group event for senior women. Rose Kerubo was second while Ruth Samuel was third.

Ogucha Kiyaka, 60, won the senior men's 2km special age-group race followed by Anyima Osoro and Thomas Mogitaba.

Mwamba Kona, 12, won the 1km boys' race. Hesbon Moracha finished second while Ezra Mairura was third.
