During a press conference held at the party branch offices, Gusii county council chairman Rasugu Ogamba, branch executive committee member Peter Makori and other party delegates said it was in bad taste for Obure and Kiangoi to oppose Ongeri's candidature during a press conference in Nairobi.
"We only proposed Ongeri while expecting that Obure, Kiangoi and other delegates in Kisii, Nyamira and Gucha would come to an amicable endorsement of the Public Health Minister in a consultative meeting," Ogamba stated.
The party officials together with Messrs Dominic Maroko, Aloise Omae, Charles Ombuna, Peterson Abuya and local Kanu executive officer Christopher Onchari resolved at the meeting that they would support Ongeri's nomination of vice chairmanship and Raila Odinga for secretary general.
The Kisii Kanu delegates said the press conference convened by Obure and Kiangoi in Nairobi could create the wrong impression that the Kanu leaders from the Kisii community were fighting each other for the top post.
"Our endorsement of Ongeri emanated from the fact that he is currently the longest serving cabinet minister from Nyanza province apart from the fact that he is also the provincial Kanu representative to the NEC and a member of the Kanu/NDP merger consultative committee," Makori said.
The delegates at the same time claimed that some political businessmen from within and outside Kisii, were out to cause confusion among the Kanu leaders from the area so as to frustrate their chances of securing the senior post.
