Minister Urged to Save Stadium from grabbers

Seven MPs yesterday appealed to Sports minister Najib Balala to save the Gusii stadium in Kisii Town from being grabbed.

The Ford People legislators said the stadium had been allocated to individuals who were putting up permanent buildings.

Yesterday, the stadium management said the initial beacons between the stadium and a plot meant for the Agricultural Society of Kenya showground had been removed.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, South Mugirango's Mr Omingo Magara said a large part of the plot had been sold to unsuspecting buyers.

The MPs urged the minister to tour the stadium and liaise with his Lands counterpart, Mr Amos Kimunya, to cancel illegal allocations.

After touring the stadium, Mr Magara, accompanied by Nyanza South Kenya Football Federation officials Peter Angwenyi and Samuel Juma, said it was immoral for some Kisii leaders to be allocated the only playground in the region.

The other MPs were Mr Stephen Manoti, Mr Mwancha Okioma, Mr Joel Onyancha, Mr Henry Obwocha, Mr Jimmy Angwenyi and Mr Zebedeo Opore.

They also called for an investigation into how Sh2 million meant for the stadium's renovation was used.
