Kisii MPs Vow to Back Kibaki

The 10 Ford People MPs from Kisii say they fully support President Kibaki's government.

Speaking on behalf of the group, three of the MPs, Mr Okeri Masanya (North Mugirango), Mr Henry Obwocha (West Mugirango) and Mr James Magara (South Mugirango) said they would support Bills aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans.

"Our role is clear and we are willing to work with Narc MPs where necessary," said Mr Obwocha.

The MPs said the Kisii community "is not at all bitter for being left out of the Narc Cabinet. What we expect is fair treatment in the distribution of national resources. We shall speak with one voice in the interest of our people."

Mr Obwocha and Mr Masanya were addressing mourners at the funeral of Mr Francis Ogeto Mirigi, who was elected posthumously as the Esise Ward councillor on December 27. Mr Mirigi was buried at his home in Ekerubo Village, Nyamira District, on Friday.

On his part, Mr Magara, who addressed a press conference in Kisii Town, dispelled fears that the community would get a raw deal from the Government.

The MPs advised the Government to tread carefully in implementing pledges they made to Kenyans or risk plunging the economy into disarray.

Meanwhile, a kinsman of former cabinet minister Julius Sunkuli asked the politician to stop blaming his relatives for his defeat in the elections.

Mr David ole Moriltat said Mr Sunkuli had dug his own political grave by not cultivating mature grassroots leadership in Trans Mara District during his tenure as the Kilgoris MP.

Mr Moriltat was reacting to a story carried in the Sunday Nation last week in which Mr Sunkuli blamed his former in-laws for his defeat. The retired District Roads Officer is the father of Mr Sunkuli's estranged first wife.

He claimed that during the elections, Mr Sunkuli engineered the transfer by the Electoral Commission of his son, Mr Moses Moriltat, from Kilgoris to Narok. Moses was a presiding officer in Kilgoris but was moved to Narok just before the poll.
