Board's Move On Pyrethrum is Criticised

Mr Timothy Omato said the move would demoralise farmers and result in low production of the crop.
Last week, the board turned away farmers who had gone to deliver the produce, saying it would not accept any more flower deliveries from the two districts because it had no storage facilities.
Yesterday, Mr Omato said: "The board should have provided storage facilities, even temporary ones, until marketing problems are sorted out instead of turning away the farmers."
An official at the board's office in Kisii said the organisation was regulating the delivery of flowers and told farmers to wait until accumulated stocks were sold.
"We don't have enough storage facilities in the province and this has become worse because last year's pyrethrum has not been sold," the official said.
