Gusii Mayorial Race Results

In Kisii, Mr sam Nyangeso, a Narc-Kenya councillor beat Ford-People’s Wilfred Monyenye to become the town’s new mayor. Mr Nyangeso had nine votes against Mr Monyenye’s six.  The deputy mayor’s seat went to Mr Patrick Siro who beat the only elected woman civic leader, Ms Jane Justine.

Kanu won in Nyamira Town while a Kenya National Congress councillor was elected chairman of the Gusii County Council. Councillors allied to PNU won most seats in the party’s strongholds in Central and some parts of Eastern and Rift Valley provinces while ODM-Kenya carried the day in some parts of Eastern Province.

The Gucha race turned chaotic after two rival groups failed to agree on the mode of electing the chairperson. It took the intervention of police from the nearby Ogembo police station to quell the situation.

In neighbouring Ogembo Town Council, the elections stalled after two rival groups differed in picking an interim chairman. In Gucha South, Mr Johnson Nyabwanga of ODM was elected chairman. Mrs Eunice Mokobi bagged the vice-chairperson’s seat.

At Tabaka Town Council, Mr Dick Omari of ODM sailed through unopposed as the chairman of the council. Mr John Mokoma was voted his vice-chairman.
