Need for opposition side in parliament, says Onyonka

Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka is calling on Members of Parliament who will not be included in the grand coalition government to form a strong opposition in parliament. Onyonka says it is important for the August house to have an opposition side to monitor the government’s performance. However the Kitutu Chache MP says for this to happen, the house should have the position of opposition leader taken up by members from the small parliamentary parties. The legislator added that the position of opposition leader is unlikely to be filled following the power sharing agreement between ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Mwai Kibaki. Parliament rules require an opposition leader to come from a party with not less than 30 MPs, but the MP wants the rule to be changed in order to come out with an opposition side.
