Kisii bound passengers robbed

Three robbers armed with an AK-47 rifles Monday morning intercepted a Kisii-bound bus at Ransuna near Keroka and robbed passengers of thousands of shillings and mobile phones. Nyanza Provincial Police Officer Anthony Kibuchi said the robbers blocked the bus using another vehicle, forcing the driver to stop. They then boarded the bus and robbed the passengers.

He said police recovered the vehicle used in the robbery at Mutimia area and that nobody was injured during the incident. The police boss says Flying Squad officers are combing the area for the suspects.

In another incident, police in Migori shot dead three suspected robbers and recovered two home - made pistols with four rounds of mmunition. Kibuchi said a police uniform and a Somali sword were also recovered in the incident at Ranen near Awendo.

Kibuchi said the suspects were in a matatu traveling from Kisii to Migori when they were intercepted at a roadblock. He said officers at the roadblock shot dead one of the suspects as he fled into the bush and recovered a homemade pistol from him. Kibuchi said as the police searched the other passengers, another suspect attempted to remove a home - made pistol but was gunned down while the third was shot when he drew out a Somali sword. Bodies of the slain suspected gangsters who had no identification were taken to a Migori mortuary.
