At Gianchore in Nyamira District, the omission of a candidate’s name from the ballot box resulted in the elections not taking off. Elections at Kipchimchim, Kapmaso and Roret went on peacefully.
The KTDA vice chairman, Mr Philip Ngetich, was elected unopposed at Seretut buying centre. At Kapkoros, Kapset, Mogogosiek and Kapkatet, elections also went on peaceful, according to the returning officer Mr Samwel Sigei.
The KTDA played down the chaos, saying the exercise had started smoothly and in the places where elections had not taken place, farmers were “undecided on the mode”.
“Of the 51 factories that went for elections today (Tuesday), 44 of them had full participation while in three of them, elections did not take place. The exercise was satisfactory in most tea-growing areas, said company secretary Ken Omanga said in a statement. Frarmers are expected to elect 102 directors.
