He was addressing a conference on strengthening Mathematics and Science education in Nairobi. The Treasury would reconcile the accounts by next week and all the schools would get the funds. "No Kenyan child will lack education, as we are committed to making every child access education," said Prof Ongeri. Work harder
"Even where the numbers are soaring, we will make sure that all children get education," he said. The minister urged students affected by the post-election violence and who will be sitting their national examinations later in the year to work harder to catch up with the rest.
"We are expecting record results from these students," he said. "Human beings perform best in hardships." Prof Ongeri urged African teachers to emphasize on HIV education as it was still a challenge to many schools."A curriculum without HIV education is not complete. Education is a dynamic process and should be reviewed quite often to establish that we are on the right track," he said. The Government has set aside Sh300 million to rebuild schools razed during the December post-election violence.
Yet to leave
Only 135 out of 1,700 internal refugees camping at Ekerenyo in Nyamira District were moved yesterday as others declined to leave, fearing for their lives. Refugee camp chairman Thomas Manoti and Mr Ken Makori, Ms Ruth Moraa and Mr Denis Mokaya said the Government did not consult them before arranging for their resettlement.
"We do not know what awaits us at our homes. The Government should not expect us to go back to where we were uprooted without making security assurances," Mr Makori said. He said many of the victims were not willing to go back because they were not sure they would be compensated once they left.
