Sh9b to be spent on roads

The Government will spend Sh9 billion to rehabilitate and construct eight roads in Nyanza, Provincial Roads Engineer, Mr Muita Ngatia, says. The amount has been disbursed for on-going road projects that covering 225 kilometres.

An additional Sh5.8 billion had been spent on 305 kilometre roads in the current financial year. Ngatia further revealed that Sh726 million had been spent in gravelling six all weather roads. He said Kisii was slated to benefit from an extra Sh130 million out of Sh18 billion to be disbursed countrywide before the end of the financial year for maintenance of different classes of roads.

He said the roads under construction are the 70 kilometre Kisii-Kilgoris Highway, funded to the tune of Sh1.9 billion, Keroka-Sotik road (25km) costing Sh1.2 billion, Daraja Mbili-Nyatieko road (50km) at 1.8 bilion, Rongo Homa Bay (33km) at Sh1.1 billion and Keroka-Nyangusu road costing Sh2.7 billion.
