Mayoyo and Nyangeri shine on Kisii track

Evans Mayoyo overcame stiff opposition to win the 5,000 metres race during the Nyanza South athletics championships at the Gusii stadium on Friday.Mayoyo, an individual entrant, battled with Paul Tanui and Maurice Mosima exchanging leads before breaking off with 200 metres to go to win the race.

Shoulder-to-shoulder

Mayoyo was upbeat that he will do well during the national championships next week in Nairobi.“The race was very tough because the three of us ran shoulder-to-shoulder but I beat them because I had some energy in my reserve. I hope to do well in Nairobi next week,” he said.
