Man beaten to death for ‘adultery’

A middle-aged man paid the ultimate price after he was allegedly caught in bed with a married woman. The woman’s in-laws, who caught the duo in the act, descended on the man with blows, kicks and sticks, beating him to death. The incident occurred at Amabuko, Rigoma Division, Masaba District on Monday night.The woman’s husband had earlier been arrested and was locked up at Keroka Police Station for illegal possession of chang’aa (illegal brew).

"It seems to man’s relatives were bitter that the wife was having an illicit affair with the deceased," said Mr Lawrence Mwaura Njoroge, the local OCPD. Police took the body to Gucha Hospital mortuary.The OCPD said a man was arrested in connection with matter and was helping them with investigation. Njoroge said murder cases stemming from illicit love affairs were on the rise and warned residents against taking the law into their hands.

Elsewhere, quick intervention by a DO saved six suspected witches from a lynch mob in Kitutu Chache, Kisii District. Mosocho DO Joseph Mwangi Wamuti acted swiftly and saved the six from a mob baying for their blood in Nyamondo village on Monday.

"I received a call that a suspected witch was about to be lynched and rushed there. We found the mob torturing the suspect whom we rescued and took to Kisii Police Station," he said. Recently, 15 suspected witches were killed in the neighbouring Marani Division and 53 houses torched. Scores of suspects were arrested for allegedly lynching the witches.

Meanwhile, police officers acting on a tip-off shot dead a suspected gangster in a foiled robbery at Soko estate in Kisii town.A gun was recovered from the suspect during the incident that happened on Tuesday at around 1.30am. The suspect was among five gangsters who had raided the estate and tried to rob residents.
