Nyambati to fulfil 10 promises

Kitutu Masaba constituency is one of the well-known electoral areas due to its former outspoken MP the late George Anyona. Anyona kept the constituency in the limelight with fiery anti-establishment politics. Some residents believe his political stand may have led to the constituency’s under-development.

This perhaps explains why the new MP Walter Nyambati Osebe has his job cut out for him. He has vowed to reverse the trend, saying the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of the dream.

"The greatest challenge during my tenure as MP will be to assist the people of Kitutu-Masaba to use their talents to gain the development opportunities they have lost over the years," he says.

Nyambati, who unsuccessfully sought the seat thrice before finally landing it last year, is out to ensure prudent use of devolved funds — including CDF, Latf and bursary —to ensure Kitutu Masaba develops.

He garnered 7,421 votes while his closest challenger, Mose Nyambega, got 7,240 votes. He won on a National Labour Party (NLP) ticket after beating 33 contestants.

Nyambati has identified ten key priority areas during his five-year term: Education, agriculture, healthcare  infrastructure, electricity, water, women, youth, sports and devolved funds.

Experts are surveying the constituency to identify two schools— one for boys, the other for girls — in each location to be made model-learning institutions. This is a CDF funded project to improve education standards, he says.

The soft-spoken legislator believes quality education must form the backbone of his constituency’s development. Some 1,200 bright but needy students in secondary schools have received a minimum of Sh8,000 and a maximum of Sh15,000 each from the constituency bursary fund.

"The issue of education is very close to my heart and I would ensure that disadvantaged children are not left behind," Nyambati asserts.

Provision of electricity is also a priority, given that less than one per cent of his constituency is lit. Only four out of 56 secondary schools are supplied with power.

The 56-year-old MP says he will ensure connection of power in all secondary and primary schools as well as market centres, hospitals, churches and homes. Nyambati went to Nyakuro Primary School before proceeding to Nyaroa Secondary School in Kuria District. After which he joined the Armed Forces where he served for nine years.

During his service in the military, Nyambati was sponsored by the armed forces to study engineering at Royal School of Engineering where he graduated with a Diploma. Later he studied bachelor of Business Administration in the US.
