Another set of Siamese twins born

Five children from one family are fighting for their lives at Keroka sub-district hospital in Masaba district after taking toxic herbs. The children, aged between 3 and 14 years from Kierira village, East Kitutu location, were rushed to the hospital complaining of abdominal pains after taking the herbs administered to them by their parents.

According to their mother Gladays Morumbi, her husband had instructed her to give the children a herbal concoction he had prepared the previous night to allegedly prevent them from contacting amoebic dysentery.

Morumbi who works with the department of Children in Narok district, also took the concoction and left for his duty station but he also took ill and had to seek medical attention at Kericho district hospital.   Masaba district Public Health Officer Thomas Nyang'au said the concotion was prepared by leaves from the thorny apple, a highly poisonous plant species.  Joel Ongaro, a clinical officer at the hospital described the children's condition as stable.
