Man jailed for threatening wife

An Ogembo court has sentenced a man to six-months in jail for threatening his wife with a panga. Nyabuto Ombasa appeared before senior resident magistrate Lily Nafula accused of intimidating Rose Kerubo, by threatening to cut her with a panga. He committed the offence on September 29, at Bomware village, Gucha District.

The court heard that after a drinking spree, the accused picked a quarrel with his wife, forcing her to seek refuge at a neighbour’s house after he threatened to cut her with a panga. She reported the matter the next morning and he was arrested. Ombasa pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court for leniency.

The community service order report requested by the court was did not favour a non-custodial sentence. "I proceed to sentence the accused to serve six months imprisonment," said Nafula.
