The DEO, however, said the girl was taking her remaining papers from the hospital. Elsewhere, in Gucha District, a candidate at Getenga Primary School was taken ill on Wednesday and rushed to hospital where she was admitted. Local DEO Risper Owino said she had sent an officer to assess the situation and see if it was possible for the girl to continue with her examination.
Mrs Owino also said heavy rains had delayed transportation of examination papers to the 174 centres. The district has the highest number of examination centres. She, however, said her office was doing everything possible to ensure the exercise went on smoothly.
Meanwhile, candidates in parts of Trans Mara District had to wait for two hours after exam papers were found missing. Some 20 candidates from Nkararu Primary School were shocked when they learnt of the missing papers. Confirming the incident, local DEO Enock Okwemba said the Kenya National Examination Council said the irregularity was due to errors during packing.
"I communicated the issue to KNEC and they told me the school’s code number might have been skipped during packing," he said. He also dismissed allegations that the candidates were not registered. The affected candidates had to sit for the exam after papers were borrowed from schools with extra papers.
"Since the affected school was the main examination centre, it was easier to get extra papers from other schools in the same centre," Okwemba said.
