Top don shot dead as gang raids home

Heavily-armed gangsters on Thursday morning gunned down a senior university lecturer at his home in newly-created Borabu District. Prof Japheth Maranga died on the way to hospital after six gangsters raided his Metamaywa home near Nyansiongo Town at 3am. Nyamira police boss Mwaura Njoroge said the gang escaped on foot after the attack.

Prof Maranga, who has taught in various public universities, was a lecturer at Baraton University. The police boss said security officers had launched investigations into the killing.

His widow, Mrs Hellen Moraa Maranga, told the press that the gang broke into their house through the kitchen door then moved into the bedroom asking for her husband. Prof Maranga was recently appointed to the Kenya Institute of Education and was an elder brother of Appeal Court judge, Mr Justice Samuel Bosire.
