A man who stole a radio from a family that hosted him will serve 24 months in jail. Jared Ongogo Otieno committed the offence on November 24, at Nyabera, Gucha South District. He stole a Panasonic radio cassette valued at Sh8,000 belonging to Rose Nyasuguta Nyang’au. He pleaded guilty before Ogembo Senior Resident Magistrate Lily Nafula. The court was told that the accused was offered lunch at complainant’s house.
Nyasuguta later went to the shamba and left the accused in the house. However, 30 minutes later she heard her children screaming saying the visitor had taken their radio. She reported the matter at Etago Police Station and the man was arrested in Transmara. The radio was never recovered. In mitigation, he prayed for leniency. Nafula ruled that the offence was serious.
