Boy and Girl Buried Alive

Two children, a boy and girl, died after they were buried alive at a quarry in Gucha District, yesterday. The incident took place at 6pm at Giasaiga sub-location.

Local assistant chief James Onchoke said the two had been sent by their mother to scoop some soil from a quarry near Nyakegogi Primary School, a few kilometres from their home. They were to use the soil to smear their house in readiness for Christmas. But as they dug the soil inside the deep quarry, it collapsed on them.

Meanwhile, police in Rongo are investigating a case in which five bodies were found floating in Kuja River, four days ago. Speaking in Migori, local OCPD Erick Mugambi, said a team had been sent to identify the bodies. He said initial investigation indicates the bodies could have come from neighbouring Kisii District. He said they suspect the bodies, all belonging to men, were killed in Kisii before being thrown into the river.

The first body was collected on Saturday, and on Sunday, three more bodies were picked. Mr Mugambi said the bodies have been taken to Kisii District Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
