Kisii town investors wary over reduced business returns

The relocation of public service vehicles (PSVs) from the Kisii town centre to a new bus terminus has drawn criticism from investors. Traders especially on the Central Business District claim they have been recording huge losses since the move was affected, some eight months ago. Kisii Municipal Council implemented the plan that saw matatus barred from the CBD, a situation where passengers are picked and dropped at one location.

The affected business community, though happy with the move that helped ease congestion in the town want the PSVs re-routed in a way that passengers can be dropped and picked at designated points to level competition among investors. Kisii mayor, Cllr Samuel Nyangeso yesterday said he had received a memorandum from the traders to have routes redesigned citing loss of customers.

"The move was aimed at decongesting the CDB but there is a lot of resistance from a section of investors," the mayor said. Nyangeso urged the traders to be patient saying the situation would normalise with time and business would resume. A number of hoteliers have either closed business of changed to other ventures for lack of customers
