Patients feel pinch as doctors leave hospital

Nyamira District Hospital has been hit by a shortage of doctors after four doctors left either on transfer or to pursue further studies without being replaced. Now the hospital has only two doctors, a surgeon and gynaecologist, who are not able to cope with high numbers of patients.

Clinical officers and nurses are now performing some duties meant for doctors. The district medical officer of health said that there was an urgent need to have more doctors in the hospital.
