PNU blames ODM over skirmishes

The Party of National Unity wants ODM to take full responsibility for the aftermath of the General Election, saying its advocacy for a regional system of Government had been misunderstood, leading to deaths and evictions.

Mr George Nyamweya, a PNU official, said some ODM leaders had indirectly evoked tribalism by campaigning on the platform of a federal government. He said: “What the country is experiencing is the misinterpretation of the majimbo system of Government that ODM campaigned for. It is upon them to go back and explain to those causing mayhem to stop evicting people from the Rift Valley.”

More than 500 people have been killed, while 250, 000 have been displaced in post-lection skirmishes. The latest clashes are in Nakuru, where more than 60 people have been killed in the past two days. Nyamweya and two MPs, Mr Walter Nyambati (Kitutu Masaba) and Mr Moriasi Ombui (North Mugirango/Borabu), condemned the escalation of the violence rocking Nakuru and called for peace among communities.
