The Government has once again overlooked the work of a boundary review commission and created five divisions in Gucha District. Internal Security Minister George Saitoti led PNU ministers and MPs in creating the divisions in Bomachoge constituency as goodies to lure residents into voting for party’s candidate Joel Onyancha in the Thursday by-elections.
Addressing a campaign rally at Kenyenya grounds on Sunda, Saitoti led the ministers in assuring residents that Onyancha would be elevated to a minister if he recaptured his seat. His move is aimed at countering announcement by Prime Minister Raila Odinga that he had powers of appointing party’s candidate Simon Ogari to a Cabinet position if he won the seat.
The race for the parliamentary seat has been reduced to a two-horse race between ODM and PNU with the two parties using the cabinet position to trade for votes.
Post officers
"The divisions will start to operate immediately and I will post district officers immediately," said the Kajiado North MP. Yesterday, Saitoti said the creation of the new divisions was aimed at bringing services close to the residents. "I give Onyancha an appointment on September 1 for us to discuss electrification in Bomachoge. Assist him by electing him otherwise he won’t step in my office," said Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi. Prof Ongeri called on Bomachoge constituents not to upset the development agenda set by Gusii MPs and elect Onyancha.
