Finish jobs on time, minister tells builders

Contractors who fail to complete their work within the set timeframe have been put on notice. The government was sometimes forced to spend more money than was allocated to complete projects because contractors never finished their work as stipulated in their contracts, said Public Works minister Chris Obure.

“I am not going to tolerate contractors who will not complete projects as set in work plans they sign with my ministry,” the minister said.

Ensure prompt completion

Speaking during groundbreaking of the second phase of the construction of Nyamira Police Division headquarters on Tuesday, Mr Obure told contractors who had won tenders for various projects worth Sh22 billion to ensure they were completed on time.

He ordered a construction company to complete the Nyamira police project in 100 weeks at a cost of Sh712 million.

“I will not smile with you if this work will not be completed within 100 weeks,” the minister told the contractors.

The minister said it was a policy to pay contractors promptly “so that they do not have any excuse of failing to complete projects in time.”
