Stop Abagusii Genocide

Someone please find Lumumba Okeyo/Public EyeGroup/Nyagetinge Umoja
Society and any other concerned parties and share with them
sentiments expressed in this email.

STARKLY STATED: Isn't it AMAZING and a mark of failure that Abagusii
Diaspora luminaries are not engaging with (i) each other; and (ii)
the Banyagetinge folk back home with a viw to ERADICATING this
unnecessary violence in the community?

The Matundas of this world, etc, spend inordinate amounts of web
space spewing 'wisdom commentaries' on why one or the other Kenyan
is not suitable for the presidency of Kenya, yet one would expect
these guys to spend more time stopping the warfare within the
Abagusii community itself which is becoming an Iraq in our midst?
Does it call for special peacemakers to resolve these wanton
killings?

Or should we send Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga
Foundation, or the Moi Africa Institute to restore peace among the
Abagusii? Where are the gallant sons and daughters of this great
Kenyan community to stop the self-inflicted genocide that's
annihilating the Abagusii? Must genocide be committed only by
someone else, outsiders?

What we see happening in Gusiiland is genocide, pure and simple, and
if the wisemen and women of the community do not intervene soon, the
community will in due course wipe itself out of this planet: ...
agreeing that many in this forum and elsewhere will think
of 'Genocide' to apply ONLY to the massacres of 1994/95 Rwanda, one
must however recognise the folly in such misguided contentment by
judging the situation from the view of nearly 500 innocent Abagusii
men, women and children murdered in cold blood since the more recent
spate of killings commenced.

No need to state the obvious that, cumulatively, tens of thousands
of innocent members of the community have lost their lives in this
way during the last one or two decades: these numbers add up, and
the Abagusii genocide will not come to an end on its own without
effective involvement of the Abagusii Diaspora in educating their
people against this self-inflicted genocide! They must not be klike
the Somali Diaspora that funds the mayhem back home, to utter
statelessness, then wonder what the hell is going on in their home
country!

Trouble is, the Abagusii of Kenya are such a warlike lot that when
they are not killing Maasais in the Kilgoris/Trans-Mara borders,
they will be killing some Luos at night in the vicinity of the
Riosiri market. And when their (political and cultural) leaders have
not incited them against their neighbours to vent-off this murderous
energy, they set upon each other with matchetes in the name of
killing suspected witches: ... if the English history with witch-
hunts is anything to go by, then the Abagusii of Kenya will quite
easily be extinct - annihilated from within by the warlike nature of
its very own sons and daughters, not by poverty or disease like in
other neighbouring Kenyan communities - unless the more enlightened
Nyagetinge / Abagusii Diaspora wakes up to the terrible reality and
helps restore some sanity back home!

I have purposefully written this bluntly and without any pretence to
political correctness so that someone in the GUSII DIASPORA wakes up
to the reality of unnecessary deaths in the beautiful Gusii country,
that I love so much being part and parcel of my immediate
neighbourhood: peace and prosperity in Gusiiland is good for me as
much as the same in Luoland where I come from!

I address this letter to the Abagusii Global Diaspora because I know
that the community's politicians back home are too busy enjoying the
false comforts of Kibaki's dysfunctional 'Government of National
Unity' to worry about the escalating massacre of innocent men, women
and children back home! I also do so because I haven't seen any
initiative from Kenya-based Abagusii professionals towards ending
this genocide even if the politicians have turned their backs on
their own voters, obviously oblivious of the fast-creeping 2007
general elections!

I have confidence in the Public Eye Group to carry forward this
matter and rally the Abagusii Diaspora into coming to the rescue of
the families back home: ... will someone please stop the genocide in
Gusii country? Thank you!

Blessings to the Peacemakers of Gusiiland!
